Brian
Catchpole is a cyclist, calligrapher and crooner. He has a penchant for comic songs, and a well-developed comic paunch.
The theatre is in his blood, and his blood is in some theatres.
Brian Withstandley grew up in
the West Indies. He became involved shanties and sea songs as a listener and performer. A professional actor, with the sailor
look, including a full set of whiskers.
Chris Bennett sings both traditional and modern songs. In October
2008 Chris published a folk music book 'Historical and Political Ballads and Songs of the Stuart Era”.
David
Rees' first shanty performance was to naval ratings in Plymouth, teaching the importance of singing loudly and not
giving up. He has sung in festivals in Poland and Finland.
Dave Webb currently organises a folk workshop in Dartford. Dave enjoys destroying his share
of the planet by venturing recklessly abroad, including Australia.
David West was one of the original
members of ShantyCrew. He formed The London Shantymen, then recently rejoined the ShantyCrew before they re-named as The
Hog-Eye Men.
